FEBRUARY 25, 2010 -- Tellabs Inc. in Naperville, Ill., has earned U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) certification from the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) for several optical networking and enterprise GPON products.

JITC certified the Tellabs 1000 Multiservice Access Platform, Tellabs 1134 and 1150 Multiservice Access Platforms, and Tellabs 1600 Optical Network Terminals.

The DOD plans to deploy optical LANs and packet optical networks worldwide to modernize military bases, deliver real-time battlefield imagery, and secure mission-critical defense communications.

Enabling network convergence over a fiber-optic infrastructure, Tellabs optical LAN products deliver service as fast as 2.4 Gbps per user with native end-to-end IP/Ethernet technology.

"No one puts mission-critical telecom equipment through tougher tests than the U.S. Department of Defense," says Joe Shilgalis, vice president for Tellabs Government Systems. "Tellabs' products are the first and only optical LAN and packet optical transport with 40G to pass DOD's stringent testing and achieve JITC certification."
