SEPTEMBER 10, 2010 -- Network services provider RCN Metro Optical Networks, says it will re-launch as Sidera Networks. The re-launch follows the completion of the acquisition of RCN Corp. by private investment fund ABRY Partners LLC for approximately $1.2 billion, including the assumption of debt (see "ABRY Partners to acquire RCN Corp.").

In addition, the company announced the appointment of Michael Sicoli as CEO of Sidera Networks.

Sidera is Latin for a constellation of stars, which the company says is embodied in its employees, service capabilities, network, and customer base. Sidera Networks plans to continue along the path it followed as RCN Metro to provide high-capacity transport services for carriers as well as large and medium sized businesses. These services include Ethernet, SONET, wavelength, video transport, Internet, and dark fiber, among others.

"The name Sidera has strong links to the company's history and cultural values, and it represents the next evolutionary stage for our business," said Sicoli. "As a team, Sidera has one simple goal and that is to provide outstanding service and support to our customers. I am excited to lead this all-star team through its next phase of growth."

Sicoli previously served as executive vice president and CFO for RCN Corp. from 2005-2010.

In addition, Ed O'Hara will join Sidera Networks as the CFO. The rest of the Sidera Networks leadership team will remain the same, including Felipe Alvarez, president and COO; Paul Eskildsen, general counsel; Patrick O'Hare, VP engineering and operations; and Maura Mahoney, VP sales and marketing.
