AUGUST 26, 2009 -- Alcatel-Lucent (search Lightwave for Alcatel-Lucent) has signed two contracts with Vietnam Telecom National (VTN), a wholly owned subsidiary of Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Corporation Group (VNPT), to help the operator transform its network. Alcatel-Lucent will provide its IP and optical solutions enabling VTN to meet the increased capacity requirements driven by new service demands.
"The backbone network is critical as we proceed with our IP transformation," says Duong Van Trieu, director of VTN. "Alcatel-Lucent's portfolio offers unmatched performance and advanced service-oriented features, making it the ideal choice as we roll out a new generation services."
"Leveraging Alcatel-Lucent's technologies, we optimize traffic transmission and allocate capacity dynamically, when and where the economics proves in, without any service interruption," adds Van Trieu.
Alcatel-Lucent will provide its IP/MPLS offerings, including the 7750 Service Router (SR) and the 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM). The company's IP/MPLS infrastructure is expected to provide VTN with scalability, bandwidth on demand, and increased service-level guarantees.
Leveraging its packet optical transport and Zero Touch Photonics offering, Alcatel-Lucent will also supply its 1850 Transport Service Switch (1850 TSS) and 1830 Photonic Service Switch (1830 PSS). Operating at 40 Gbps, the system will allow VTN to respond to end-user needs faster and more efficiently while minimizing capital and operational expenditures.
"With operations in Vietnam since 1993, Alcatel-Lucent has played an integral role with customers like VNPT/VTN, in helping them develop and evolve their networks," says Sean Dolan, president of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in Asia-Pacific. "Our scalable solution offers service providers like VNPT/VTN much greater network reliability and agility to aggregate and backhaul traffic loads, thus minimizing our customers' total cost of network ownership."
