17 MARCH 2009 Ekinops (search Lightwave for Ekinops) says it has been chosen by next-generation operator BSO Communication to provide optimized optical transport equipment for the carrier's network.

In addition to typical transport applications, BSO Communication was interested in a capability that would allow it to differentiate its service offerings to customers from those offered by other service providers, says Ekinops. Upon BSO Communication's request, the systems vendor delivered the ability to offer rate-managed 10-Gbps services and full-rate Gigabit Ethernet services over the same 10-Gbps wavelength. This enables BSO Communication to offer tailored services while using network bandwidth efficiently.

BSO Communication provides network services, integration services, and web hosting to its customers. The carrier operates in France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, and Hong Kong. BSO Communication will be using the Ekinops 360 platform for:

  • implementation of an Ethernet WDM transport network
  • equipment interconnection in its four major data centres located in the Paris area
  • transport of 10-Gbps signals in those data centres.
"As a next-generation operator, our customers expect the highest level of flexibility from us in providing them with services that meet their needs. Efficient and unique use of our network bandwidth allows us to better respond to this customer demand," said Frederic Dhieux, technical manager at BSO Communication. "With the Ekinops 360 platform, our major objective was to optimize the use of the bandwidth in our network while bringing a 10-Gbps connection to our customers".
