Casa Systems has launched the DS8x96, a downstream module that adds Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) functionality to its C10G Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS). The module is designed to enable cable MSOs to deploy DOCSIS, IPTV, and MPEG video on a single chassis and increase channel density over existing CMTS modules.

The DS8x96 module supports 96 channels per port, including 32 channels of narrowcast and 64 channels of broadcast for a total of 768 channels per module. As the C10G can accommodate 11 primary DS8x96 modules and one protection module, the CMTS can support more than 8000 narrowcast and broadcast channels downstream.

"With the announcement of the DS8X96 module, Casa Systems continues to prove to be an innovator in the CMTS market," said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst, broadband access and video, for Infonetics Research. "The new module positions Casa as one of the leaders in the upcoming competition for lucrative CCAP contracts worldwide."

"Casa Systems was the first company to release a gull DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS to the market and we are doing it again as the first company to release a bull CCAP system,” said Jerry Guo, founder and CEO of Casa Systems.. “Casa's CCAP approach is dramatically different from the rest of the industry. With our first CCAP release we have created an integrated, full CCAP system that delivers DOCSIS, IPTV and MPEG video and it is available today. Our current C10G customers can seamlessly migrate to CCAP by adding the DS8x96 module without changing any other hardware on the platform.”

The CCAP offering offers hardware redundancy, software resiliency, IPDR data collection, XML configuration, and advanced routing features such as IS-IS, OSPF, BGP for IPv6, and MPLS, Guo added.

Casa Systems is demonstrating its DS8x96 module at NCTA, The Cable Show, May 21-23 in Boston.
