MRV Communications, Inc. (OTVQB: MRVC) says Urban Communications Inc., a Canadian telecommunications provider, has selected MRV's end-to-end optical Ethernet offering based on its OptiSwitch and LambdaDriver optical WDM metro transport systems. This new equipment will increase the capacity of Urban's fiber-optic network and enable the deployment of high-bandwidth, revenue-generating services.
Urban will use MRV's optical communications systems to deploy mission-critical applications at speeds up to 10 Gbps today with a path to scale up to 100 Gbps in the future. The system will also deliver a suite of Internet, voice, video, and broadband services to Urban's commercial, residential, and public sector customers in metro Vancouver and Victoria.
"By deploying MRV's unified optical transport and Carrier Ethernet solution, Urban is now able to meet the growing needs of our customers with superior reliability, quality, and security," said Leslie E. Maerov, president of Urban Communications. "The solution provides the flexibility needed to seamlessly scale Urban's fiber-optic network for increased capacity without the need to lay additional fiber, allowing us to realize significant savings."
MRV claims that the combination of OptiSwitch as Ethernet intelligent access and LambdaDriver as core optical transport for metro and regional services is ideal for service providers rolling out new services because it can deliver the required capacity at a price point that should provide a good return on investment.
