Mid-Atlantic-based service provider Lumos Networks has completed a technology test of Cisco's (NASDAQ: CSCO) 100-Gbpscoherent DWDM technology across its service area, according to the systems house. The test confirms that Lumos Networks can support 100-Gbps data rates on its existing 10-Gbps fiber plant by deploying 100G line cards in its current Cisco ONS 15454 platforms, Cisco says.
"Demand for data services is exploding and we'll be there to meet the needs of our customers for next-generation bandwidth and enhanced capabilities,” according to Michael B. Moneymaker, president of Lumos Networks. “These types of network enhancements allow our customers to meet their business objectives and foster economic development in our Mid-Atlantic region."
Lumos Networks provides carrier, business, and residential customers data, voice, and IP services. With headquarters in Waynesboro, VA, Lumos Networks serves Virginia, West Virginia, and portions of Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio, and Maryland over a 5,800 route-mile fiber network.
