The City of Oak Forest has selected WOW! Business, the business services arm of cable operator WOW!, to supply fiber-based services to its major municipal buildings. WOW! Business will provide Ethernet services and has installed fiber cable connections to city hall, the fire department, and public works building in town.

The new links connect the buildings to the city's existing mesh fiber-optic network. WOW! Business says it can provide Internet access and other broadband services over the network at speeds scalable to 10 Gbps.

"These new dedicated fiber connections add to our broadband infrastructure and help allow our community to keep pace with new IT innovations and the benefits they provide," said Oak Forest IT Director Tom Rieman. "We selected WOW! Business for this project as much for their responsive customer service and focus on tailoring a solution that best fit our specific needs as we did for the company's technical expertise."

Oak Forest, a city with approximately 28,000 residents and 450 businesses, is about 25 miles outside downtown Chicago. "We're grateful that Oak Forest selected WOW! Business for this important broadband infrastructure project," said Kelvin Fee, senior vice president, Midwest Region, for WOW! "We believe that one of the things that set us apart from competitors is our strong focus on and commitment to smaller communities that don't often get the attention they deserve from other facilities-based service providers."

WOW! Business owns and operates over 42,000 miles of fiber-optic and coaxial infrastructure in 19 U.S. markets, as well as data centers that provide access to national carrier backbones. It uses this network to provide IP-based network, data, voice, and cloud services to small and mid-sized businesses, enterprises, and government and wholesale customers.
