Russian cable MSO Akado Telecom, the trademark of KOMKOR, OJSC, has upgraded its Moscow fiber-optic network backbone with Infinera’s (NASDAQ: INFN) DTN-X packet-optical transport platform, the two parties announced. The upgrade will add 100-Gbps capabilities to the network and increase its capacity by more than 4X, to more than 8 Tbps.

Akado’s full fiber-optic network extends more than 18,000 km. The operator offers high-speed residential Internet access, voice services, and cable TV services, as well as services for businesses and government entities.

Infinera says that Akado will leverage DTN-X platform’s Instant Bandwidth capabilities to enable on-demand services in 100-Gbps increments. Meanwhile, the system’s application programming interfaces will automate network operations to reduce both operational cost and service delivery times.

"Deploying the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network allows Akado to dramatically increase the capacity on our metro backbone to support the growing demand in Moscow and Moscow region," said Vitaly Klishin, senior vice president at Akado Group. "With this solution we can rapidly scale network capacity to deliver reliable 10G, 40G, and 100G services to meet the needs of both B2B and B2G customers of Akado Telecom, including banks, service providers and government organizations."

"Akado's deployment of the DTN-X platform enables the company to meet the demands of the growing Russian market with speed and efficiency," said Chris Champion, vice president, EMEA sales, Infinera. "We are pleased to work with Akado on enhancing their network and committed to helping our Russian customers succeed in this market."
