APRIL 8, 2008 -- TelePacific Communications, a California-based provider of business communications services, has announced the expansion of its existing network using Alcatel-Lucent's (search for Alcatel-Lucent) optical equipment. TelePacific says the project will help it further speed service delivery, including local and long distance voice, dedicated Internet access, private networking, and data transport services, as well as bundled voice and Internet services.
TelePacific currently operates its 22,794-mile network in California and Nevada. The $4.3 million expansion project, scheduled for completion by the end of 2008, will extend and increase its aggregation facilities by more than 50% in key areas, says the provider, including Bakersfield, Stockton, San Luis Obispo, and Fresno. The network expansion will also enhance TelePacific's network reliability, throughput, and capability and reduce costs, say company representatives.
"This expansion is exciting since it means we have the ability not only to reduce outages, but also to eliminate single points of failure," notes Russell Shipley, senior vice president, wholesale and network services, TelePacific Communications. "By continuing to invest in our communications infrastructure and committing to provide access to leading-edge technology, TelePacific will continue to be a leader in the telecommunications industry."
Alcatel-Lucent says it will project manage, engineer, and deploy TelePacific's network expansion project. The provider will use Alcatel-Lucent's optical transport equipment, including the 1665 DMX multiplexer, which will provide TelePacific with a single networking platform designed for high-capacity voice, data, and video transport.Â
"The Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX multiplexer offers the flexibility needed to provide today's and tomorrow's services as it enables TelePacific to grow efficiently to meet future customer demand," contends Gerry Cafaro, vice president of sales for Alcatel-Lucent. "Understanding the needs and the customer focused approach of an innovative telecommunications provider like TelePacific was Alcatel-Lucent's driving force behind developing a highly reliable, cost-effective solution," he adds.
