German carrier taps ADVA Optical Networking for DWDM

9 DECEMBER 2008 -- ADVA Optical Networking (search for ADVA) says that inexio KGaA, a service provider in south western Germany, has deployed DWDM technology based on the ADVA FSP 3000 platform. The deployment is intended to increase the transmission capacity of inexio's telecommunications backbone and provide the carrier with an Ethernet- and MPLS-based network capable of easily keeping pace with all customer requirements.

The cost for implementation and operation of the new network is barely more than that of the previously leased and managed SDH connection, the system house asserts, while the transmission capacity has grown from 2.5 to 320 Gbps. The vendor also says the platform was implemented quickly and easily, and is now being operated "hassle-free" by the inexio staff after just a few days of training.

inexio operates its own fibre-optic-based telecommunications network in south western Germany, Luxemburg, and eastern France. The network spans approximately 1,000 km and has nodes in major cities in southwestern Germany between Frankfurt/Main, Karlsruhe, and Luxemburg. The carrier also currently operates three data centres in that same region in Saarlouis, Luxemburg, and Kaiserslautern.

Established in 2007, the startup has already acquired a customer base of more than 150 companies from different branches of industry that includes Villeroy & Boch, Boehringer Ingelheim, Juris GmbH, and SES ASTRA.

"The future belongs to innovative Ethernet- and MPLS-based networks. We are firmly convinced of that, and our own next-generation network is a prime example," said David Zimmer, general partner of inexio. "With ADVA Optical Networking's DWDM solution, we are now able to quickly and efficiently meet our customers' growing needs for more bandwidth. What's better, our costs for the implementation and operation of the new network come to hardly more than those for the managed STM-16 lines we used to lease. ADVA Optical Networking has proven to be an extremely reliable, flexible partner. We are already planning a number of new network segments that will be deployed based on ADVA Optical Networking's solutions."
