AUGUST 5, 2008 -- Growth in Internet video traffic will drive growth in the service provider router market over the next five years, reveals a new report from Dell'Oro Group (search for Dell'Oro Group).
Service provider routers are used as the underlying infrastructure of the Internet, and the Dell'Oro report highlights the product and technology transitions required to meet demands placed on the Internet by video traffic.
"The Internet is on the verge of four-fold speed overhaul," reports Shin Umeda, vice president of routers research at Dell'Oro Group. "Routers with 10-Gigabit technologies have become commonplace, and we expect the transition to 40 Gigabit per second to accelerate over the next few years," he says.
The Dell'Oro Group 5-Year Forecast Report provides a complete overview of the routers industry with tables covering service provider and enterprise router revenue, average selling prices, and unit and port shipments (by speed T1/E1, T3/E3, OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, OC-48/STM-16, OC-192/STM-64, OC-768/STM-256, 100-Mbit/sec Ethernet, 1000-Mbit/sec Ethernet, and 10-Gigabit Ethernet) for router and WAN switch technologies.
