AUGUST 11, 2008 -- Optelian (search for Optelian) has been certified as a Calix Compatible Partner (search for Calix) for its LightGAIN CWDM and DWDM systems, as well as its optical regenerators.

"Many optical network operators are facing fiber exhaust in their networks, but placing new fiber can be cost prohibitive as well as involve long lead times," explains Dave Mills, vice president of sales for Optelian. "In these situations, Optelian's LightGAIN family of CWDM/DWDM filters and regenerators allows an operator to put a Calix C7 multiservice access platform (MSAP) into service in many cases at a fraction of the time and cost. In addition," he says, "the Optelian regenerators are perfect for extending the reach of a Gigabit Ethernet circuit from a router to a Calix C7 platform."

The two test configurations in the Calix Compatibility Lab demonstrated the successful transmission and regeneration of Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) link and multiple SONET OC-48 circuits and also the use of CWDM and DWDM filters. The tests were performed between Calix C7 MSAPs and a Calix C7 MSAP and router (Cisco 3750).

The tests demonstrated that the Optelian LightGAIN CWDM and DWDM systems can be installed and turned up for fiber relief in an existing network using the GbE and SONET switching capabilities of the Calix C7. Additionally the tests confirmed the successful regeneration of a GbE circuit between a router and a Calix C7 using an Optelian RGN transponder, say company representatives.

"Our customers continually seek new, efficient methods for delivering the bandwidth that their customers require as quickly and effectively as possible," notes Martin Laney, manager of the Calix Compatible Partner program. "The certification of the Optelian LightGAIN family of CWDM/DWDM filters and regenerators via the Calix Compatible program gives the broad North American base of Calix customer's new options for high-bandwidth services, as well as the assurance of interoperability with the Calix C7," he adds.
