MARCH 7, 2008 Ekinops (search for Ekinops) reveals that TelemaxX Telekommunikation GmbH, a telecommunications service provider, has deployed the Ekinops 360 optical transport platform in its network in Germany.
TelemaxX was founded in February 1999 by several regional utility companies within the Karlsuhe technology region. TelemaxX is using the Ekinops 360 in its backbone, connecting more than 11 major cities, including Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, and Eppelheim. According to Ekinops, TelemaxX will be able to maximize capacity of its fiber network and eliminate amplification sites while extending its geographical reach, thanks to the new transport platforms. Broadband service providers use the TelemaxX network to provide triple-play services (TV, telephone, Internet), and the new optical network will provide them with access to a much larger number of subscribers.
"We chose the Ekinops solution because of its performance capabilities and high flexibility," said Dieter Ketterman, general manager of TelemaxX. "The Ekinops optical transport platform was the only solution powerful enough and capable of skipping multiple amplification sites, which translated into major savings."
The telecom and broadband markets in Germany have seen several years of strong growth. TelemaxX worked closely with its integrator, Pan Dacom Direkt GmbH, on its equipment choice. The Ekinops 360 platform provides aggregation of Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and STM-16 traffic over 10 Gbits/sec. The capacity of the TelemaxX network can be extended further up to 32 channels at 10 Gbits/sec.
