Polish Telecom to deploy Cisco CRS-3, ASR 9000 Series routers

Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) says that Polish Telecom (Telekomunikacja Polska, or TP Group) will deploy the systems supplier’s Cisco CRS-3 Carrier Routing System and Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers as part of an optical network upgrade.

TP Group expects the routers will enable the carrier to offer hosted voice, video streaming, collaboration, and cloud computing services cost-effectively, Cisco says. The ability of the Cisco CRS-3 and Cisco ASR 9000 Series routers to serve Internet traffic on TP Group’s IP/MPLS network was a key consideration, Cisco adds, as was the ability to support IPv6. TP Group expects Internet traffic will increase at 40 percent yearly on its networks, Cisco says.

Cisco recently announced a series of upgrades to the ASR 9000 Series that improve its scalability and expand its feature set (see "Cisco upgrades ASR 9000 to 96 Tbps, unveils nV network virtualization capability").

"Service providers around the globe see the need to get prepared for the next Internet, including an increased demand for video, and Polish Telecom is no exception,” explains Surya Panditi, senior vice president and general manager, Core Routing Group, Cisco. “TP Group's newly deployed infrastructure provides the network foundation for delivering a new array of video, collaboration and cloud computing services."
