Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: LVLT) has launched a service aimed at helping online game developers reach customers more efficiently. The Bandwidth Optimizer service combines Level 3’s global high-speed IP (HSIP) transit network with its content delivery network (CDN) to provide game suppliers with high bandwidth and low latency.

Level 3 says its Bandwidth Optimizer enables game developers to leverage its HSIP and CDN services interchangeably. Thus these developers can access more bandwidth when they need it, as well as reduce the possibility of service delays during game launches and updates. In addition, because the HSIP and CDN services are available on one platform, Level 3 says it can easily work with customers to quickly address any needs or changes.

"We have worked on a number of game launches and patches, and know how much speed and reliability can dictate the success of a customer's product," said Mark Taylor, vice president of Content and Media at Level 3. "Our new Bandwidth Optimizer solution was built to address industry needs, and allows game developers and publishers to spend more time focusing on creating the best gaming experiences possible."
