EMCORE Corp. (NASDAQ: EMKR) has expanded its Optiva Platform to support analog fiber-optic signal transmission from 1 MHz to 40 GHz. Optiva is a modular, plug-in card-based system for transporting video, audio and data signals over fiber-optic cable in support of satellite communications.

The Optiva Platform’s newest features include provision of fiber-optic links for frequency references from 1 MHz to 100 MHz, IRIG/1PPS, IF, L-Band, S-Band, C-Band, X-Band, Ku-Band, Ka-band, and Ultra-Wideband (50 MHz - 40 GHz).

A new fan-cooled Optiva chassis in a 19-inch, 3U rack mount enclosure supports 16 hot-swappable modules and dual redundant power supplies. Use of the SNMP Ethernet interface enables simple integration into existing monitoring and control systems, EMCORE asserts.

"The introduction of these new fiber-optic transport modules allows customers to further leverage the versatility and cost-effectiveness of the SNMP-managed Optiva Platform. This, in turn, allows operators, systems integrators, and OEMs to deploy a single platform to handle all of their optical transport needs over the industry's widest frequency range," said Dr. Ron Logan, EMCORE's vice president of photonic systems. "Leveraging EMCORE's unique RF photonic wafer-fab and vertical integration, Optiva enables a low-cost, high-performance fiber-optic solution for satcom earth stations," he added.
