Moritex Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) has, through its subsidiary Moritex Europe (Cambridge, UK), has received an order for its FOCAL automated fibre alignment systems for DWDM optical devices from Marconi Optical Components (Northampton, UK).

The initial order for 20 of its proprietary FOCAL automated fibre optical alignment systems, valued at Y1 billion, will begin shipment in 2001. A total of 50 or more units are expected to be delivered to Marconi over the next three years.

Moritex expects this order of its FOCAL system to strengthen its partnership with Marconi and further solidify its global presence in the next-generation optical communications market, especially in North America and Europe.

Marconi ordered the state-of-the-art FOCAL automated fiber alignment systems for optical devices in order to fully automate its manufacture of such active and passive optical devices as tunable lasers and transmitters. It believes that the adoption of the FOCAL will contribute to huge improvements in production capacity and uniformity of quality.

Global demand for next-generation DWDM optical devices is growing, especially in North America and Europe. Moritex is currently involved in a number of other projects with manufacturers throughout Europe and North America, including Marconi, but this order from Marconi will serve to further strengthen the partnership between the two companies, giving Moritex a major boost to the expansion of its business in this area.
