Deutsche Telekom chooses Acterna for remote fiber test system

Sept. 26, 2001
Sept. 26, 2001--Acterna announced that Deutsche Telekom has selected Acterna's remote fiber test system, Atlas, for monitoring of its optical networks in six key regions across Germany.

Acterna (NASDAQ: ACTR) announced that Deutsche Telekom has selected Acterna's remote fiber test system, Atlas, for monitoring of its optical networks in six key regions across Germany. The decision to install a remote fiber test system (RFTS) for 24-hour monitoring of its entire fiber network is key to the Deutsche Telekom strategy for optimization of network availability and quality.

When installation is complete in autumn 2001, the Acterna remote fiber test system will be monitoring 800 dark fibers in the regions of Bayreuth, Dresden, Düren, Eschborn, Karlsruhe and Siegen.

The Acterna Atlas remote fiber test system provides 24-hour monitoring of the fiber network for early warning of problems such as network failure or cable damage. The system consists of a series of compact, remote test units (RTUs) installed at strategic points throughout the network, and a central server where data is collected and analyzed. Powerful Atlas software provides a wide range of data analysis and network management functions.
