iPhotonix LLC, says it has been selected by Summit Broadband, an Orlando-based private cable operator, to supply its iVolve series of optical network terminal (ONTs) for the operator’s FTTx deployments. iPhotonix’s iVolve series of ONTs include GPON integrated RF return capabilities. The integrated RF return supports two-way communication between video headends and consumer devices, which enables the service provider to offer interactive services such as video on demand.

iPhotonix LLC, says it has been selected by Summit Broadband, an Orlando-based private cable operator, to supply its iVolve series of optical network terminals (ONTs) for the operator’s FTTx deployments. iPhotonix’s iVolve series of ONTs include GPON integrated RF return capabilities. The integrated RF return supports two-way communication between video headends and consumer devices, which enables the service provider to offer interactive services such as video on demand.

With advanced RF return technology, Wi-Fi enabled ONTs, and software-upgradable gateways, the iVolve series helps the operator to retain customers and gain market share while fully monetizing their network assets, the company claims.

"The overall value of the iPhotonix’ solution is far above the cost savings of a competitively priced ONT," said John Pietri, vice president of engineering at Summit Broadband. "There are savings in simplified optical network planning, optical budget management, as well as the straightforward iVolve RF return technology that makes it the right solution for us."

“The iVolve series of ONTs represents a new beginning for market-leading operators like Summit Broadband,” said Jeff Mulqueen vice president of sales and business development for iPhotonix. “Closed system suppliers have been shrinking their ONT offerings because, in that model, costs are higher to carry multiple options for ONTs. Since we are exclusively focused on the ONT platform, we’ve met this challenge with innovation and launched iVolve, delivering market differentiating features with multiple port options, which makes iVolve the most robust ONT platform available in the market today."
