15 April 2003 Edmonton, AB Lightwave - Communication Networks Infrastructure Management System for Fiber Outside Plant (CommNets IMS+Fiber) software by Kanotech Information Systems is the second application in a suite of products designed for firms that have large RF or fiber-optic networks. CommNets IMS+Fiber provides everyone in an organization, regardless of their technical ability, access to detailed mapping, engineering data and connectivity data for fiber outside plant infrastructure. Building upon the functionality provided in the Communication Networks Infrastructure Management System, CommNets IMS+Fiber provides navigation, tracing, analysis, and reporting functions associated with fiber infrastructure.

CommNets IMS+Fiber understands the complicated relationships between fiber outside plant assets, such as sheaths, fibers, headends, nodes, and splice cases, and how they take signals to and from clients. Thus, CommNets IMS+Fiber is capable of performing complex traces such as going from customer point of service to the headend that the signal originated at, with end-to-end connectivity between the RF outside plant and the fiber outside plant that services the customer for both the forward path and the return path. Any user can simulate an optical time-domain reflectometer shoot, and pinpoint where the signal terminated along a given light path. The program's powerful map storage and distribution engine allows users to store the mapping information for all of their assets, base mapping, and addressing in the system, regardless of the size of the data set.
