3 March 2003 -- Gigabit Optics, Sunnyvale, Ca, US, has introduced its third passive product line: Patch products.

The micro-optical platforms enable products with smaller form factors and lower costs, morer flexible system configurations, and cost reduction to service providers, GO claims.

"Our mission is to create and integrate current and future generation CWDM components," said Pat Edsell, CEO of Gigabit Optics. "As part of this effort, we are pleased to introduce the Patch products, which optimise existing system capabilities."

The company has developed what it claims to be the world's smallest Patch Mux/Demux and OADM technology for CWDM applications.

Based on Gigabit's proven technology, the Patch products suit the needs of OEMs that manufacture optical networking systems and subsystems.

Patch products overview
Features that differentiate the Gigabit Patch product line are: each of the products occupies no board space; they are data rate and protocol independent; and they have a high performance for a small additional cost, GO claims.

-- Patch Mux/Demux-4 combines or separates up to four optical channels with optional express functionality on a CWDM ITU-grid. This is suited to optical networking systems where a low-cost upgrade is required. The express channel is compatible with either a CWDM or a DWDM ITU-grid.

-- The Patch OADM-1 enables add and drop capabilities of any same single channel on a CWDM ITU-grid. This product is ITU G.694.2 compliant.

-- The Patch OADM-2 enables add and drop capabilities of any same two channels on a CWDM ITU-grid for metro core, metro access and enterprise CWDM systems.

Gigabits' Patch range joins its existing Macro Mux/Demux & OADM and Micro Mux/Demux & OADM product offerings, all based on patent-pending optical platforms that can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate different laser types, transmission speeds, form factors and connectors.
