PMC-Sierra S/UNI-12xJET physical layer solution offers flexible high bandwidth
Feb. 12, 2001--PMC-Sierra (Santa Clara, CA) unveiled a complete physical layer solution today for the aggregation, transport, and termination of up to 12-channels of DS3/E3 and J2 protocols. The solution replaces up to four discrete devices and delivers cost-effective DS3 services in new and existing platforms.
The S/UNI-12xJET reduces the number of routers required in the metro and is the only single-chip solution in the industry for terminating packet/cell traffic for a single OC-12 down to the DS3/E3 level.
The announcement falls rapidly on the heels of PMC-Sierra's ARROW-2xGE™ announcement using virtual concatenation (VC) and generic framing procedure (GFP) standards to map Gigabit Ethernet frames into SONET/SDH transport networks.
The device is currently sampling and is packaged in a 35 x 35 mm , 580-pin TSBGA, rated for industrial temperatures of -40 to +85°C, and fabricated using 0.18 micron CMOS process.
