Quantum Bridge Communications Inc., developer of optical access networking solutions, today announced a Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) WAN switch card designed for use in both its QB5000 and QB3000 Optical Access Switch (OAS) platforms. The new card is being deployed by SIGECOM, a broadband utility joint venture offering telecom services in Indiana.
Installed within the QB5000 and QB3000 platforms, the GbE WAN switch card enables high-speed connectivity to IP switches or routers for delivering high-capacity optical Ethernet WAN services. Use of the card enables SIGECOM to deliver reliable voice services to their customers in region, including a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company, and flexible data services to one of the leading medical facilities in the area, says Quantum Bridge. It also allows the efficient transmission of IP traffic into the WAN through switches from Extreme Networks and Internet routers from Juniper Networks installed in SIGECOM's regional Central Offices (COs).
SIGECOM is deploying the GbE WAN switch card in conjunction with several components of the Quantum Bridge Optical Access family. Specifically, to serve small and mid-sized businesses in Indiana, SIGECOM is deploying QB5000s and QB3000s to deliver flexible broadband services over a Passive Optical Network (PON). To serve large Fortune 500 organizations they are utilizing the QB3000's multiple OC-3 interfaces to deliver redundant voice and data services. Once traffic is aggregated at the CO, SIGECOM is using Quantum Bridge's VT1.5 card in the QB5000 to route voice traffic onto their dedicated voice network, while data traffic is sent to the GbE WAN switch card, through a router and onto an IP network in the WAN.
The Quantum Bridge GbE WAN switch card is a full-function Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2 switch card with IEEE 802.1Q Virtual LAN (VLAN) and redundancy capabilities. The card is equipped with two physical ports (one active, one redundant) to ensure maximum resiliency. The card is currently available.
