May 10, 2002--CommScope, designer and manufacturer of high-performance broadband communication cables, has introduced LaserCore, its newest 50-micron fiber-optic cable designed for 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) applications.

CommScope, designer and manufacturer of high-performance broadband communication cables, has introduced LaserCore, its newest 50-micron fiber-optic cable designed for 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) applications. LaserCore supports smooth video streaming, real-time medical imaging, peer-to-peer video conferencing, and CAD/CAM file management. It can be used across essentially all communication infrastructures, including Local Area Network (LAN), Storage Area Network (SAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and in most applications where high bandwidth is required.

According to the company, one of LaserCore's key benefits is the Differential Mode Delay (DMD) testing it receives to assure that it is 802.3ae-compliant for 10-Gigabit transmission to 300 meters as outlined in our current published specifications. In addition, LaserCore does not require mode conditioning patch cords to handle laser launch into multimode fiber, which results in a cost savings.Using fiber counts of 2 to 288, it is available in Outside Plant, Indoor/Outdoor, and Premises cable designs.

"We developed LaserCore to provide our customers with the highest quality 10-Gigabit ethernet-capable fiber-optic cable," contends Randy Crenshaw, CommScope's executive vice president and general manager for Network Products. "Increasingly, our business customers are requesting cable products to carry the newest applications as well as those they anticipate they will need in the near future. LaserCore is our latest entry into this highly technical area."

Through its investment in OFS BrightWave, CommScope has ownership interest in one of the largest producers of optical fiber and cable. This venture and other arrangements with OFS Fitel give CommScope access to a broad array of technologically advanced optical fibers as well as an attractive supply arrangement.
