18 December 2002 -- Transmode Systems AB, Stockholm, has delivered a CWDM solution to SL Infrateknik, the owner of the Stockholm Underground rail network. The system integrator is Sigma Maldata Network Solutions.

SL Infrateknik is building a network that will connect all the underground stations and key centres in the Stockholm public transport network. The network comprises 115 underground stations and overground stations, which will now be connected.

The network will be used for data communication between the stations, but will also transport traffic from video surveillance and the speaker system as well as IP telephony traffic.

"The network that SL is building is a modern and flexible one that imposes high requirements on the transmission equipment. It is this kind of customers that really can enjoy all the benefits from our CWDM solutions. Owing to the flexibility and transparency in our system, we could offer a very attractive and future proof solution", says Johan Gronlund, area sales manager for the Nordic region at Transmode Systems.

"By winning this contract we demonstrate once more that we are more cost effective than DWDM solutions and more flexible than integrated Ethernet solutions."

Transmode's products are based on Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing, a technology for sending multiple channels over a single fibre. The technology is a further development from the more traditional DWDM technology and enables more flexible, robust and above all more cost effective networks.

"The network we are investing in will be used to improve the information to our passengers even further and to increase security on our platforms. To be able to offer correct information and high security is very important for us", says Lars-Gunnar Sjocrona, manager of the IT-department at SL Infrateknik.

Nils Boghammar, CEO at Sigma Maldata Network Solutions, adds: "We are delivering a communication platform to Stockholm Underground with strict requirements on the active equipment. The modular and robust technology that Transmode offers meets these requirements fully and fits well in the overall solution."
