Tele2 Launches New Broadband Services with Redback Solutions
01 June 2002 -- Tele2, Scandinavia's largest alternative carrier, has chosen Redback Networks for both broadband aggregation and optical transport within its residential and wholesale service offerings.
The Redback SMS platform of subscriber management systems and SmartEdge 800 Intelligent Transport optical platform, enables Tele2 to manage large numbers of new customers for its voice, data and Internet broadband services.
Tele2 has deployed the SMS platform to terminate incoming ADSL traffic from residential broadband users, as well as wholesale ADSL connections provided to other service providers. The SMS platform also enables Tele2 to manage thousands of ADSL connections, aggregating, grooming and provisioning the traffic before handing it off to the Internet - via the SmartEdge 800 Intelligent Transport platform.
The SmartEdge 800 Intelligent Transport platform, deployed in Tele2's Copenhagen metro network, provides a high speed link for slower, non-optical traffic transported between the Internet and Tele2's backbone network. The Redback platform enables efficient management and hand-off of high volumes of broadband traffic to the Internet without any loss of performance or reliability.
The service provider landscape in Scandinavia remains competitive, with many users moving from one dial-up account to the next to find reliable Internet access. Tele2 is aiming to deliver a robust broadband service as an attractive alternative for users.
Marco Wanders, Redback's VP for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said, "Tele2's deployment is a fine example of how Redback's products support service providers and carriers as they move into broadband service provisioning. Our platforms simplify the successful operation of broadband services - at a time when differentiation and service quality are becoming more important to service providers and their users."
