Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL) now offers the Lynx2-PLUS CustomFit Splice-On Connectors line. The fiber-optic connectors are designed to promote quicker real-time and on-site terminations via an enhanced installation procedure and improved packaging in data center, enterprise network, FTTx, fiber distribution hub, and other connectivity applications.

The patented connectors can reduce termination time for 2- and 3-mm cord applications by half -- to approximately 2 minutes – the company asserts. Complete connection of 250- and 900-micron cord cables can be accomplished in 96 seconds or less, SEL adds. The fact that the connectors no longer require furcation tubing for 2- and 3-mm applications enables shorter, more aesthetically pleasing connectors. The finished product mirrors factory pre-terminated jumpers, trunks, harnesses, and arrays, SEL asserts.

Meanwhile, the 4ct. packaging improves efficiency via faster package entry, easier component access, and streamlined assembly process, SEL adds. In addition, the Lynx2-PLUS connectors support customized, on-site, real-time field terminations and fiber cable builds at exact lengths. SEL says this means rapid, easy, and reliable customized permanent field terminations without the shorts, excess slack, and logistic delays of pre-terminated fiber-optic cables.

The Lynx2-PLUS is compatible with all SC, LC, FC and ST style fiber-optic connectors. They also are designed to eliminate crimping tools, gels, splice trays, and the inventory of varying length of pre-terminated jumpers.

The splice-on connectors provide APC, UPC, and PC (MMF) polishing options and yields average insertion losses of 0.15 dB for singlemode fiber and 0.10 dB for multimode fiber. The connectors also are compatible with SEL's Quantum Fusion Splicers and can also be used with other splicer brands.
