October 5, 2005 Ottawa, Canada and Linthicum, MD -- Telecom Ottawa, a network services provider to Eastern Ontario businesses and public-sector organizations, has announced the availability of a suite of SONET, WDM, and storage extension services enabled by platforms from Ciena. The services are designed to provide Canadian federal government agencies, as well as enterprises and carriers, with 10-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) connectivity throughout the Ottawa metropolitan region.

According to a press release, with the platform, Telecom Ottawa can sell IT connectivity and network services to Canadian government agencies, boards, or clients based on its qualification under the Canadian government's Converged Network Services Supply Arrangement.

The provider has deployed Ciena's ONLINE Metro Multiservice DWDM transport platform as the foundation for delivering the services. Based on the agreement between the two companies, Telecom Ottawa also can deploy Ciena's CN 2000 Storage Extension Platform and CN 2600 Multiservice Edge Aggregator, on the basis of customer needs or additional service expansion.

"Government communications requirements are changing drastically to support real-time decision-making and inter-agency collaboration, so the performance and reliability of multi-site wide area networks is critical," comments Mike Aquino, vice president of Americas Sales for Ciena. "Our work with Telecom Ottawa highlights Ciena's approach to these requirements with our Adaptive WAN solution, a set of multiservice transport and switching platforms that serve as building blocks for creating networks that are always available, never drop traffic, and deliver predictable network performance."
