Korea's DACOM selects ECI's optical equipment for backbone, metro networks

June 8, 2005 Petah Tikva, Israel -- DACOM, one of Korea's largest telecommunications providers, has deployed and launched ECI Telecom's XDM multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP) to enable the provider's backbone and metro networks.
According to a press release, the contract is valued at $3.6 million for the first deployment, with an option for expansion over the next few years. The deployed DWDM network spans all of Korea, supplying customers with the necessary capacity for next-generation services, according to the release.
"After looking at other solutions for these new networks, we selected ECI based on its advanced solutions, its system reliability, and competitive price," explains Hyeong-Kyu Kim, director of DACOM's transmission network unit. "The new networks allow DACOM to continue to provide a low-cost, value-added leased line service to our subscribers."
The company says its converged multi-service platform includes combiner cards that can aggregate services to conserve channels. The company says the 32-channel platform provides infrastructure to enable the provider to support transparent wavelengths of up to 10 Gbit/sec, provisioning new services as needed by simply inserting new cards.
The provider's DWDM networks connect the cities Jungdong, Kyoung, Chung, Kangbuk, Yoeui, and Kangnam. They also connect KIDC, one of Asia's most advanced data centers, according to the release. The provider previously deployed the company's XDM platform in the city of Pusan, in 2003.
"ECI is pleased to help DACOM advance its position in the Korean telecommunications market," concludes Aviel Tenenbaum, president of ECI`s Asia Pacific regional business unit.
