Alabama Fiber Network’s (AFN), Breezeline, Brightspeed, eX² Technology, Home Telecom, and Ziply Fiber are using public and private funding sources to expand broadband availability in various communities.

Alabama Fiber Network’s (AFN) middle-mile network nears completion
Alabama Fiber Network (AFN) is reaching the end of its statewide middle-mile network build, crossing the J. Lee Long Bridge on Alabama Highway 29, one of the final major spans before the statewide backbone is finished. As reported in Yellow Hammer News, AFN held a recent ceremony in Camden, Ivey’s hometown in Wilcox County. AFN, the rural-electric-co-op-led consortium building Alabama’s statewide middle-mile, now has service available in all 67 counties as of the end of October, with full project completion still tracking for February 2026, according to the Governor’s Office. The backbone totals roughly 3,500 miles and is designed to lower transport costs, add resiliency, and shorten timelines for broadband ISPs extending service to unserved and underserved areas. The network will connect key anchor institutions such as public safety facilities, K-12 schools, libraries, healthcare facilities and government buildings. By providing middle-mile infrastructure, the network will lower costs for internet service providers, accelerate last-mile broadband deployment and enhance economic development statewide.

eX² Technology and Yuma County, Arizona celebrate the launch of an Ag-Dedicated wireless network
eX² Technology recently commemorated an AgTech Wireless Tower Network in Yuma County, marking the launch of a wireless network dedicated to agriculture, designed to deliver field-level connectivity that enables the next wave of precision farming and water conservation technologies. Agriculture is the backbone of Yuma County's economy, with nearly 190,000 acres under cultivation. The region consistently ranks among the very top U.S. counties for agricultural output, generating more than $3.2 billion annually. eX² Technology is developing a network of towers across nearly 160,000 acres of irrigated farmland. The infrastructure is designed to empower farmers with services that support AI-powered machinery, IoT sensors, drones, GIS mapping, irrigation automation and autonomous farm vehicles. The project is being funded by a $6 million State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant awarded to Yuma County by the Governor's Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting. Arizona’s Governor Katie Hobbs joined the celebration by signing two agricultural bills: one recognizing autonomous farm vehicles as instruments of husbandry, and another establishing a Broadband Service District Authority to oversee the ag-focused broadband system.

Home Telecom serves up 5 Gbps for Daniel Island, SC
Home Telecom, which first brought fiber to Daniel Island in 2004, has introduced its Tech Giant Internet Plan, with fiber speeds up to 5 Gbps. The Tech Giant plan is built for power users who stream in 8K, game competitively, or demand cloud-based workflows. With symmetrical speeds up to 5 Gbps and capacity for multiple devices, it ensures seamless connectivity for homes and businesses alike. Every Tech Giant Plan includes advanced smart device prioritization via Home Telecom's managed Wi-Fi app, whole-home coverage with up to three MESH units, and complimentary access to SmartTown Community Wi-Fi—so you stay connected everywhere, inside and out.

Ziply Fiber lights activates McCall, Idaho fiber broadband network
Ziply Fiber’s network is ready for service in McCall, Idaho to the first 1,300 addresses of the more than 4,500 being built across the city. Construction on the remaining homes and businesses will continue over the next several months. The construction of this new fiber network is important because across much of the country, many communities still rely on outdated cable or copper infrastructure, which were never designed to handle today's internet needs and speeds.
