Furukawa Electric is realigning its global optical fiber cable operations under a new business brand, Lightera.
Set to be officially launched on April 1, at the OFC Conference in San Francisco, California, the new brand combines Furukawa Electric's three optical fiber cable business units — the Fiber Cable Division (Japan), OFS Fitel, LLC (OFS), and Furukawa Electric LATAM S.A. (FEL) — under one unified structure.
Foad Shaikhzadeh will serve as Chairman and CEO of Lightera, with Holly Hulse assuming the role of President and Chief Operating Officer.
The company stated that the Lightera logo, inspired by a lighthouse, represents its commitment to guiding industries forward with advanced optical fiber technology.
Lightera will operate through four regional divisions: NAR, including Specialty Photonics global operation, LATAM, EMEA, and APAC — supported by eight corporate functions for global coordination.
A key focus of the new structure is to drive efficiency.
The company will implement a new management system that enables faster decision-making and strategic alignment across regions. It will also expand market reach and contribute to Furukawa Electric's Vision 2030, promoting a sustainable, connected world.
Shaikhzadeh said that "by integrating our resources, we will better serve our customers worldwide and help shape the future of optical fiber connectivity."
