China Telecom’s Asia Direct Cable (ADC), an international submarine cable initiative led by the country’s incumbent service provider, has been officially in service ahead of schedule, completing two months earlier than planned.
The service provider said this marks another milestone following the Ready for Service of the ADC wet segment last November.
ADC addresses the reality that no new submarine cables have gone operational within Asia-Pacific.
As a result, China Telecom said this created a situation where “existing resources are nearly exhausted, and there is a challenging situation with no rice to cook with the situation in the market.”
Leveraging its role as Co-chair of the ADC Consortium, China Telecom has taken a proactive approach by coordinating closely with all consortium members and suppliers to overcome unexpected challenges and difficulties.
ADC’s capacity will provide a foundation for developing artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and big data while offering strong support for digital transformation across industries.
China Telecom plans to expand its footprint in overseas markets, actively developing global network resources.
