Highline has acquired 906 Technologies’ fiber assets and internet service provider (ISP) business, broadening its reach into Michigan.
The service provider said that bringing 906 Technologies to its fold enables it to expand its reach across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Specifically, Highland will be able to address more underserved areas in Michigan. It has made it a mission to extend fiber broadband in underserved communities in Michigan, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas and Georgia.
Acquisitions have been one part of Highland’s growth strategy.
Highline acquired IMS, a Liberty, Texas-based ISP in July, reflecting the provider's efforts to expand its geographical footprint.
Acquisitions in the regional fiber space have continued to pick up.
Highline’s deal reflects a growing consolidation trend in the regional fiber broadband market, which AlixPartners said will continue to accelerate over the next year.
According to the findings of the survey it issued last fall, more than 400 small fiber providers in the U.S. “are ripe for picking by investors or larger fiber companies when the inevitable major fiber consolidation wave occurs.”
