Building Broadband: ALLO targets Boulder, Colo and Flagstaff, Ariz with fiber broadband; Amperage empowers VistaBeam’s rural broadband ambitions with strategic investment

In this issue of Building Broadband, we’re tracking new deployments from ALLO, Brightspeed, Consolidated, Gateway Fiber, GoNetspeed, Greenlight Networks, PhireLink, RightFiber, VistaBeam, and WOW!

ALLO, Brightspeed, Consolidated, Gateway Fiber, GoNetspeed, Greenlight Networks, PhireLink, RightFiber, VistaBeam and WOW! are expanding broadband in various communities through a mix of venture capital and state funding sources. 

ALLO targets Boulder, Colo and Flagstaff, Ariz with fiber broadband
ALLO Fiber has set Boulder, CO, and Flagstaff, Ariz, as the latest cities where it will build its fiber broadband service. In Boulder, ALLO said it anticipates construction in the spring of 2025 in city rights-of-way and easements. Likewise, in Flagstaff, AZ, network construction will begin in March. This $65 million project in Flagstaff will employ 75 local professionals, with many more involved during construction. These fiber networks will feature up to 10 Gbps speeds for residents and up to 100 Gbps for businesses, providing equal upload and download speeds optimized by ALLO's Wi-Fi 7 routers.

Amperage empowers VistaBeam’s rural broadband ambitions with strategic investment
Amperage, an investor in rural broadband service providers, has invested strategically in VistaBeam, which delivers fiber and fixed wireless broadband to rural and underserved Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado areas. The investment will support VistaBeam’s network buildouts with comprehensive services to enhance value and reach, aligning closely with VistaBeam’s mission to deliver broadband service to unserved and underserved areas.

Brightspeed’s fiber internet is now available in Rocky Mount, N.C.
Brightspeed now offers its fiber internet network in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The provider is more than 75% complete, with locations ready for service. Providing multi-gig internet speeds, Brightspeed’s network now reaches more than 26,500 homes and businesses, with installations available immediately. When it completes this latest fiber build, Brightspeed will be able to serve more than 35,000 locations in the area.

Consolidated lights up fiber broadband for St. George Island, Fla.
Consolidated Communications has brought its fiber network to St. George Island, enabling more than 750 homes and businesses in the community to access Consolidated’s symmetrical gigabit-speed service. The company plans to expand its fiber network to more than 2,000 homes and businesses in 2025.

Gateway Fiber connects Northampton, Mass with fiber
Gateway Fiber connected its first Northampton, Mass home internet customers this week. This marked a significant step in expanding reliable, high-speed internet access across underserved communities in western MA and beyond. With symmetrical internet speeds up to 2 Gbps, this new fiber service offers residents and businesses in Northampton an alternative to traditional cable. Still, the company is investing heavily in the Northampton community and surrounding area by hiring local team members and opening an office near Chicopee.

GoNetspeed to bring fiber internet to Danbury, Connecticut
GoNetspeed announced that another Connecticut community will soon be able to tap into GoNetspeed’s fiber network. The City of Danbury will soon join GoNetspeed’s high-speed, symmetrical internet through the company’s privately funded $7.6 million investment. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025. Once the construction process is complete, over 14,300 Danbury homes and businesses will have access to fiber-based broadband service.

Greenlight Networks’ Tonawanda fiber build enhances its Western New York expansion
Greenlight Networks plans to expand its fiber internet network into Tonawanda. The expansion will connect over 5,500 new homes to the company’s ultra-fast network. Preliminary utility pole work is underway between Two Mile Creek Road and Young Street neighborhoods, with fiber cable installation beginning shortly after. Homes are expected to have service as early as February 2025. This initiative adds to Greenlight’s established presence in Buffalo, Niagara, where the company already services more than 30,000 homes.

PhireLink secures BEAD funding to enhance rural Louisiana fiber reach
PhireLink has been awarded federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program funds by Louisiana. The provider is investing significantly in fiber and wireless-based broadband infrastructure to bridge the digital divide in rural America. This funding will enable PhireLink to expand its broadband network to reach more homes and businesses in Louisiana. This initiative will connect homes and businesses in Slidell, Louisiana, and across St. Tammany Parish as the platform continues aggressively expanding throughout the state. PhireLink is actively pursuing other state and federal funding opportunities to augment its network expansion plans further.

RightFiber lights fiber internet in El Dorado, Ark.
RightFiber is launching a $5 million infrastructure project to bring fiber internet to El Dorado. Construction is expected to conclude in the summer of 2025. RightFiber will power neighborhoods and businesses in the community with its broadband connectivity. Its fiber network will support up to 5 Gbps in homes and 100 Gbps for businesses.

WOW!'s fiber Internet services become available in Brighton, Michigan
WOW! now offers fiber-based broadband services in Brighton, Livingston County, Michigan. This is the first of several communities in Central Michigan to have access to WOW!, which plans to add 80,000 homes to its footprint in Michigan shortly as part of its ongoing Greenfield expansion initiative. Construction is underway in additional Livingston, Genesee, and Oakland County communities, including Milford, Commerce Township, Wixom, and Hartland.
