Building Broadband: Brightspeed connects 32K locations in Central and East Kansas; Fidium brings fiber connectivity to Maine’s Aroostook County and Greater East Grand Region

Brightspeed, Fidium, GoNetspeed, LiveOak Fiber, Metronet, RightFiber and The Computer Works are all expanding broadband in various communities through a mix of venture capital and state funding sources. 

In this latest issue of Building Broadband, we’re tracking new broadband deployments from Brightspeed, Fidium, GoNetspeed, LiveOak Fiber, Metronet, RightFiber and The Computer Works. 

Brightspeed connects 32K locations in Central and East Kansas
Brightspeed has lit up 32,000 locations across 15 Central and East Kansas communities to its multi-gig-speed fiber network. Baldwin City and Garnett residents may see Brightspeed direct sales representatives going door to door to answer questions about Brightspeed Fiber Internet service and schedule installations on the spot.

Fidium brings fiber connectivity to Maine’s Aroostook County and Greater East Grand Region
Fidium is now available in parts of Aroostook County and the Greater East Grand Region of Maine, as its symmetrical, multi-gig speed network has expanded to more than 14,100 homes and businesses in 29 communities. Fiber network expansion included Caribou, Danforth, Houlton, Madawaska, Princeton, Bancroft, Brookton Township, Cary, Codyville Plantation, Connor Township, Drew Plantation, Forest City, Forest Township, Glenwood Plantation, Haynesville, Hodgdon, Kossuth Township, Lambert Lake Township, Orient, Reed Plantation, Talmadge, Topsfield, Vanceboro, Waite, Weston, Woodland and Wytopitlock, as well as parts of Amity and Perham. Fiber network expansion was funded through a significant investment from Fidium, and a grant from Maine Connectivity Authority’s Connect the Ready program.    

GoNetspeed completes Granby, Mass fiber network build
GoNetspeed has wrapped up the construction of its fiber internet network in Granby, Mass, and residents and businesses can now sign up for fiber internet. Through GoNetspeed’s $2.4 million investment to upgrade technology infrastructure throughout the Town of Granby, more than 2,200 homes and businesses can access high-speed fiber internet service with symmetrical speeds. Currently, Amherst, Granby, and Ludlow have access to GoNetspeed’s service, and more communities throughout the state will gain access to high-speed fiber internet in the coming months.

LiveOak Fiber gives Florida’s Emerald Coast a new fiber internet option
LiveOak Fiber is expanding and activating its fiber network across Florida’s Emerald Coast. The latest developments bring advanced connectivity to previously underserved areas in the Florida panhandle, including Deer Lake, Destin, Grayton Beach, Miramar Beach, Laguna Beach, Sea Grove, and Sunnyside. LiveOak Fiber will announce more activated zones shortly as part of its ongoing expansion efforts.

Metronet begins fiber internet construction in Aurora, Colorado
Metronet has begun construction on its fiber internet network to serve the city of Aurora, Colorado. The provider will invest tens of millions of dollars to bring ultra-high-speed fiber-optic internet directly to homes and businesses in Aurora. As construction progresses, Aurora’s residents will gain access to multi-gigabit speeds of up to 5 Gbps, and businesses will gain access to up to 10 Gbps speeds. The first customer service installations are anticipated early next year. As Metronet moves through its Aurora construction process, service will become available neighborhood by neighborhood.

RightFiber wraps Paducah, Kentucky fiber broadband build
RightFiber recently celebrated its $13 million expansion into Paducah, Kentucky, bringing fiber internet connectivity to businesses and residents with a donation of $30,000 to the United Way of Western Kentucky. The United Way of Western Kentucky strengthens the community by addressing critical needs in education, income, and health. Funds raised by the organization are strategically directed toward initiatives that align with these goals, which have been carefully designed to meet the unique needs of Paducah and McCracken County.

The Computer Works secures capital for fiber expansion effort
The Computer Works (TCW), a provider of fiber and fixed wireless internet services based in Arkansas, has secured new funding from Stephens Group and Circumference Group. This funding will further TCW's mission to bridge the digital divide by expanding fiber connectivity to underserved communities across Arkansas. Since Circumference Group's initial investment in July 2022, TCW has more than doubled its fiber footprint, accelerating its growth trajectory by expanding into new markets, including Russellville.
