Surf Internet reaches 50K subscriber mark

Dec. 2, 2024
The new milestone comes as the provider introduces its fiber broadband service in South Haven, Michigan.

Surf Internet continues progressing with its fiber broadband network expansion effort, reaching 50,000 customers in November.

The service provider’s milestone came when it launched its service in South Haven, Michigan.

Today, Surf Internet service is available in several communities across Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois.

The company focuses on delivering broadband to rural and underserved areas.

Surf’s fiber network has grown steadily over the past five years, reaching more than 175,000 households.  Recent expansions include DeKalb County, Ind., Peru, Ind., Freeport, Ill., and South Haven, Mich., with plans for continued growth in 2025.

But Surf is not doing these builds all alone. It has been actively working with local communities and pursuing private and public funding to facilitate its fiber build.

The service provider has secured over $57 million in grant funding from federal and state programs to advance rural broadband infrastructure. These funds, along with private equity investments from Bain Capital and Post Road Group and an expanded $200 million debt facility led by DigitalBridge Credit in December 2023, are fueling Surf’s continued growth as it extends high-speed internet to underserved areas across the Great Lakes region.
