GTT Communications is offering a virtual Managed Dedicated Internet Access DIA service, reflecting the growing acceptance of network-as-a-service (NaaS) offerings for businesses.
Enabled through the GTT Envision platform, which connects, orchestrates, virtualizes, and automates enterprise networks, managed DIA joins Managed SD-WAN and Managed Firewall in the suite of virtualized functions GTT offers as service-chained capabilities via its EnvisionEDGE customer-premise devices.
A vital element of the product is its global reach.
EnvisionCORE, GTT’s global internet backbone and distributed compute platform with 25 sites embedded across six continents, enables the availability of GTT-managed DIA across global locations. Through EnvisionEDGE, customers can deploy virtually anywhere in the world—whenever and however they want—directly to their premises.
DIA leads Ethernet growth
GTT’s move to offer a virtualized DIA reflects the growing nature of the service.
According to Vertical Systems Group, DIA remains the largest and fastest-growing U.S. Carrier Ethernet service based on revenue and ports.
However, the research group noted in its id-2024 U.S. Carrier Ethernet LEADERBOARD that challenges to Ethernet market growth include ongoing migration to other services, including Carrier-Managed SD-WAN and SASE, Wavelength services, and Dark Fiber.
Simplifying multi-services
Customers can also remotely deploy other advanced services, such as Managed SD-WAN and Managed Firewall, through the GTT EnvisionDX digital gateway.
DIA customers can also transition from DIA to SD-WAN in minutes – while integrating a virtual managed firewall from another vendor on top – through GTT’s service chaining capability.
This eliminates the need to “rip and replace” on-site hardware and the associated capital expenditure and cuts out any potentially lengthy installation periods associated with traditional networking. EnvisionEDGE devices with GTT Managed DIA services support up to 1 Gbps speeds today.
Ghassan Abdo, VP of Research and Telecommunications at IDC, said that GTT is taking the guesswork for businesses in service chaining between multiple vendors. “GTT is solving complex problems for the platform era, bringing global geographic reach and the combination of existing best-of-breed technology and its intellectual property to deliver a simplified user experience,” he said.
