Zayo deepens 400G wavelength network reach in New York and New Jersey Metro

Oct. 10, 2024
The upgraded capacity will target financial, media and carrier industry opportunities.

Zayo has expanded its 400G wavelength network to address rapidly increasing bandwidth needs in the New York/New Jersey metro area. This enables it to target customers like financial, media, and wholesale service provider more effectively.

The service provider said the added capacity will be able to target three segments and others:

  • Finance: Given the financial trading industry’s need for low-latency bandwidth, Zayo claims it can meet those needs via its Spread Network between New York and Chicago, North America's two largest financial markets.
  • Carrier: The added critical capacity to the dense carrier region will support seamless connectivity for massive North American traffic. It will also connect to major subsea cables to support connectivity from North America to Europe and beyond.
  • Media & Entertainment: Zayo’s 400G capacity will ensure reliable content delivery for New York’s media hub, meeting the growing demand for large bandwidth to support HD video, streaming, and AI services.

Leveraging Ciena technology, the network expansion will optimize connections between Zayo’s metro network in New York and its extended long-haul network to ensure faster service delivery and experience across North America and the globe.

Zayo continues to make progress in the wavelength services market. The service provider ranked second on Vertical Systems Group's mid-year 2024 U.S. Wavelength Services LEADERBOARD.

According to the research group, “wavelength revenue in the U.S. is on track to top $5 billion in 2024, driven by strong customer demand for retail gigabit circuits spurred by AI implementations."

Zayo’s 400G metro network in New York will link into key routes like Zayo’s SPREAD Network, a direct and low-latency route between New York and Chicago—the two largest financial markets in North America. It will also connect to major data centers and subsea cables in the New York metro for fast access to international networks to reach critical markets like Latin America.

Zayo’s New York-New Jersey 400G metro network will be ready for service in early 2025.

Bill Long, Zayo's chief product and strategy officer, said, “The expansion of our 400G network in New York is a true competitive differentiation for our customers.”
