C Spire, Fidium Fiber, GoNetspeed, Netomnia and Surf Internet are all expanding broadband in various communities through venture capital and state funding sources.

C Spire continues Laurel, Miss fiber expansion
C Spire is investing in Laurel to expand ultra-fast fiber connectivity. More than 1,300 residents will soon have the option for C Spire fiber, which has faster internet speeds than DSL and cable internet. Construction in two Laurel neighborhoods begins later this month and will be completed within the next three months. Construction will continue next year in six additional neighborhoods.

Fidium Fiber expansion underway in Westbrook, Maine
Fidium Fiber is expanding its fiber internet network in Westbrook and Gorham, Maine, bringing multi-gig speed service to more than 8,700 homes and businesses in the communities. With the expansion of Fidium’s all-fiber network, residents and businesses will soon have access to symmetrical multi-gig speed internet.

GoNetspeed is extending fiber internet to Enfield, CT
GoNetspeed said additional locations in Enfield will soon have access to fiber internet. Through GoNetspeed’s expansion to serve Enfield, more than 2,800 homes and businesses will soon gain access to high-speed internet of up to two gigabits through the company’s fully funded $1.9 million investment. GoNetspeed expects the first customers to be connected in the coming months.

Netomnia to launch 50G PON services in the UK
UK broadband provider Netomnia is leveraging Adtran’s platforms to deliver 50 Gbps passive optical network (50G PON) services to the UK market. Following its recent merger, Netomnia and brsk are now the UK’s fourth-largest full-fiber network. With an ambitious rollout plan backed by over $1.7 billion in funding, Netomnia and brsk are on track to reach 3 million premises by 2025.

Surf Internet secures $8.5M Next Level Connections grant
Surf Internet was awarded $8.5 million in the final round of the Next Level Connections (NLC) Grant Program by the State of Indiana. The funding will be matched by a $20.7 million investment from Surf Internet to support the expansion of fiber internet to underserved rural communities across Indiana. This grant, among the largest ever received by Surf Internet, will expand the company’s fiber network in 14 Indiana counties, including Allen, Blackford, DeKalb, Grant, LaGrange, LaPorte, Madison, Marshall, Noble, Porter, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, and Wells. DeKalb County is slated to be a significant beneficiary of Surf’s expanded broadband network through this funding.
