Frontier serves up 7 Gbps speeds across its network footprint

The new speed tier is bundled with Wi-Fi and other services, such as its technical support capabilities.

Frontier has introduced a new 7 Gbps speed tier across its fiber footprint, giving power users another option for higher bandwidth.

This new speed tier follows its early lead of offering 2 and 5 Gbps speeds.

But speed is only one part of the equation. As a premium speed service, the provider is combining its 7 Gbps tier with a host of other services, including whole-home Wi-Fi 7, premium technical support, a 3-year tech upgrade, unlimited data, and free installation.

Frontier's 7 Gig plan comes with two next-gen Wi-Fi 7 devices, but the telco will upgrade a subscriber's devices for free if it introduces a better technology in the first three years of when a customer has 7 Gig service.

For those who want the service, it comes with a premium price.

Frontier’s 7 Gig offer starts at $299.99 monthly with autopay, for 12 months. It includes our most popular additional services, a $899 value with included routers.

While a 7 Gbps service will likely resonate with a small portion of Frontier's subscriber base today, Frontier noted that during the second quarter, over 60 percent of its new fiber customers took speeds of 1 Gbps or faster, and more than half purchased at least one additional service that requires more bandwidth.

Frontier’s CFO Scott Beasley noted during the company’s second-quarter earnings call that ARPU growth is related to three main themes: faster customer speed tiers, annual price adjustments, and expanding value-added services.

“In Q2, over 60% of new customers took speeds of 1 gig or faster, and over 50% purchased at least one value-added service, including products like YouTube TV and whole-home Wi-Fi,” he said.
