Comporium dedicates $1.8M to expand rural Lancaster County, SC fiber network
Comporium has extended its fiber-based services to hundreds of residents in northeastern Lancaster County, reflecting the provider’s ongoing network upgrades in rural areas it made in 2023.
Customers north of Buford, SC, can access up to 1 Gbps service speeds.
The completed projects required over $1.8 million of investment and will improve services for 274 homes and businesses.
Like other rural builds it has done, Comporium combined its private investment with state grant funds to complete this project. This approach ensures the company can reach the maximum number of addresses with its fiber network.
Specifically, the build will address four main areas:
· Stacks Rd. – from Tabernacle Rd. to Wildcat Creek,
· Tabernacle Rd. – from Buford High School to Ringling Rd.,
· Camp Creek Rd. - from Campbell Lake Rd. to Daystar Rd., and
· most of Willie Usher Rd. and sections of Cannery Rd.
Comporium continues to work with state and federal agencies to find ways to upgrade service to rural customers. Recent upgrades resulted from the American Rescue Plan Act and Rural Broadband grants. These were made possible through funding from the South Carolina Department of Commerce and administered by the South Carolina Broadband Office within the Office of Regulatory Staff.
The service provider recently secured four grants from the South Carolina Broadband Office (SCBBO) totaling $51.9 million, connecting 6,610 addresses with 1 Gbps speed services upon completion.
