Frontier wins $24.7M grant to extend fiber broadband to rural Illinois communities

The company will bring connectivity to underserved and unserved communities in rural parts of the state.

Frontier has received $24.7 million in grant funding to expand high-speed fiber broadband service to homes and businesses in rural Illinois. Connect Illinois awarded the grant with the assistance of Greene County Economic Development Group.

This grant will extend Frontier's fiber network in rural Greene County, Illinois. This work directly supports our commitment to connecting unserved and underserved communities to our high-speed internet.

“Expanding access to affordable, high-speed, reliable internet in unserved and underserved communities within our footprint is a huge part of Building Gigabit America,” said Frontier’s Chief Network Officer Veronica Bloodworth. “It will unlock significant opportunities for the people in Greene County for generations to come.”

Getting access to fiber-based broadband in Greene County, Illinois, will enable various opportunities for consumers and businesses.

“The Greene County fiber project will support economic growth and entrepreneurship and enhance agriculture, healthcare and education across the county and state,” said Pat Pinkston with the Greene County Economic Development Group. “These funds will go a long way in closing the digital divide by bringing access to reliable high-speed internet in every part of Illinois. We are grateful for Frontier’s partnership in deploying this critical infrastructure in Greene County.”
