Mediacom Communications has transitioned its West Des Moines, Iowa network to the cable industry’s new 10G platform.
Consumers in West Des Moines can now enjoy the immediate benefits from this new technology with various benefits, including up to 2x-to-20x faster upload speeds, new symmetrical speed offerings, new multi-gig download capabilities, increased energy efficiency, lower latency, faster troubleshooting, and greater network reliability.
Now that it has completed the West Des Moines market upgrade, Mediacom will begin transitioning additional Iowa communities to the 10G platform, starting with the cities of Bertram, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Fairfax, Hiawatha, and Marion, as well as portions of unincorporated Linn County.
The 10G platform will allow Mediacom to ramp up from the 1 Gbps offerings of today to speeds of 10 Gbps and beyond in the coming years.
As a cable MSO, Mediacom is touting how to leverage its existing hybrid fiber coax (HFC) network facilities. Since this new 10G technology is delivered using Mediacom’s current network architecture and the connections already installed at most customers’ homes, digging up yards to add bulky equipment or bury cables is unnecessary.
As communities make the switch to the 10G platform, new and existing customers will be able to take advantage of the following speed enhancements to the company’s Xtream Internet offerings:
• Internet 100 becomes Internet 100 Symmetrical as upload speeds receive a 10x increase from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps
• Internet 300 upload speeds gain a 5x speed boost from 20 Mbps to 100 Mbps
• Internet 1 Gig upload speeds double from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps
• New Internet 1 Gig Symmetrical tier
• New Internet 2 Gig Unlimited tier
This 10G transition began in February. Mediacom had transitioned 30% of the West Des Moines market at that time.
