GCI (Anchorage, AK), a provider of facilities-based local, long-distance and cable-television services in Alaska, completed the construction phase of its $125-million fiber-optic cable system. The network will be switched on following acceptance testing. The 2331-mi cable was built by Alaska United Fiber Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of GCI. Tyco Submarine Systems (Morristown, NJ) constructed the undersea portion on the line.
