October 7, 2004 Toronto, ON -- Bayly Communications Inc., manufacturer of network access and transmission products for worldwide telecommunications markets, has introduced OMNI-Optix, an integrated SDH/SONET multiplexer designed to help enterprises with both microwave and private fiber networks realize their vision of a converged corporate network.
OMNI-Optix is capable of carrying legacy voice, legacy data, and the corporate intranet together on a single infrastructure, while also enabling the enterprise to add capability based on IP technology. This converged network approach allows companies to provide the latest technology services while maintaining legacy infrastructure for future migration as demand and budget permit.
"OMNI-Optix enables enterprises to consolidate and optimize their existing networks cost-effectively, while providing a migration path for adding the latest IP services over existing PDH or SONET/SDH infrastructure," explains Ian Graham, product manager, Bayly Communications. "OMNI-Optix leads the industry with its compact design (1 rack space) and a full complement of features (Ethernet over SONET/SDH, Legacy voice, and data support) that allow Bayly's customers to take full advantage of the converged corporate network."
OMNI-Optix is a good fit with organizations looking to optimize their existing infrastructure by reducing the number of network elements and having Ethernet services utilize existing PDH, SDH/SONET infrastructure. The OMNI-Optix provides the functions of an optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM), integrated access device (IAD), channel bank and digital cross connect system (DACS) in a single, compact device that takes up only one rack unit of space. This combination of features improves network asset management, maintenance. and operational expenses by reducing the number of network elements required.
"The development of OMNI-Optix has been driven by demand from our existing customers, who are looking for new functionality with the reliability and support they have come to expect from Bayly," adds Gary Johnson, vice president, sales and marketing. "OMNI- Optix provides our customers with a product that enables them to efficiently and cost-effectively achieve the converged corporate network model."
