December 1, 2004 Sunnyvale, CA -- Finisar Corp. has announced the production release of an industrial temperature CWDM gigabit interface converter (GBIC) optical transceiver. Ideally suited for data transport systems deployed in uncontrolled temperature environments, the CWDM GBIC is able to withstand operating temperature extremes of -40 ° C to 85 ° C while functioning at speeds up to 2.7 Gbits/sec.
"We have a long and successful history of optical innovation at Finisar, and the development of the industrial temperature CWDM GBIC is the latest example of our long-term commitment to continually offer value to our customers," reports Atikem Haile-Mariam, Finisar's product marketing manager for WDM transceivers. "This particular solution was designed to address the requirements of outdoor fiber-rich architectures in a variety of telecom environments currently underway to bring fiber closer to the home, office building, or other extreme temperature locations."
The industrial temperature CWDM GBIC transceivers include Finisar's patented digital diagnostics, an APD receiver, and CWDM DFB lasers available in eight wavelengths. All Finisar transceivers are enclosed in a metal package reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Finisar's WDM product family includes optical transceivers, passive optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs) and multiplexers/demultiplexers providing optical support for Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and SONET/SDH applications. Finisar also offers a broad range of SFP, SFF, GBIC, 1x9, and XFP transceivers for Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SONET/SDH, 1000BASE-T, and 1000BASE-CX applications.
