FEBRUARY 7, 2007 -- Avo Photonics (search for Avo Photonics), specialists in optical and RF packaging, recently expanded its volume production manufacturing operations. With a dramatic increase in demand for photonic production services, Avo Photonics has significantly upgraded its manufacturing equipment to satisfy the high-volume, critical alignment requirements for optical assemblies. In addition, Avo Photonics has increased its number of operators and technicians, as well as more than doubled its Class 1000 cleanroom manufacturing space.

"Due to the recovery of the optical market and Avo Photonics' outstanding reputation within the industry, we have enjoyed the opportunity to expand our production capabilities," reports Jeb Wu, Avo Photonics director of manufacturing. "We have added items such as automated die bonders and wire bonders, along with a vacuum reflow oven, measurement systems, a vibration test station, and multiple burn-in stations to enable rapid and repeatable production of our customer's products. With the expansion of our specifically trained workforce and cleanroom, we can maintain the quality of our manufactured products," says Wu.

To assure timely delivery and valuable products to its customers, Avo Photonics provides a team of engineering and science specialists representing the optical, mechanical, electrical, thermal, and materials disciplines, as well as individuals with numerous years of automated, high-volume optical component assembly expertise.

With cross-market skills and specific experience developing products such as TO-Can, Mini-DIL, and butterfly-packaged lasers and detectors; high-power fiber-coupled pump lasers; vacuum-sealed IR focal-plane arrays; high-power fiber-coupled isolators; and projection display sources, the Avo Photonics team believes it is well poised to efficiently meet the customer development needs and assure efficient completion of quality designs and volume production.

"From our demonstrated quality, timely, and cost-effective performance, new market opportunities continue to open," contends Michael Vinson, vice president of business development. "Avo is unique in its ability to provide flexible volume manufacturing of optical components. Through our streamlined processes and automated equipment, we are competitive with off-shore solutions. With our highly-skilled team, we distinctively provide assembly of complex, multi-element, optical systems."
