NOVEMBER 5, 2007 -- Master Bond (search for Master Bond) today announced UV18, a single component, high-strength, UV-curable chemically and water-resistant polymer system for coating, sealing, and bonding.
According to the company, UV18 is a 100% reactive, low viscosity liquid at ambient temperatures, and it does not contain any solvents or other volatiles. When exposed to a source of UV light, Master Bond UV18 produces durable, strong, tough, flexible, and highly chemically resistant coatings and adhesive/sealants with excellent electrical insulation properties, claim company representatives. Shrinkage upon cure is substantially less than that of conventional UV systems. The cured coatings and adhesive/sealants can be used over the exceptionally wide temperature range of -60 ° F to over 250 ° F, says the company.
Unlike other commercially available UV curable products, Master Bond UV18 is not oxygen inhibited and exhibits a desirably fast cure rate at ambient temperatures even in the presence of air, notes Master Bond. The company's polymer system UV18 features excellent chemical resistance to ethanol, toluene, xylene, etc., as well as up to 50% sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, and water even upon prolonged exposure, claim Master Bond representatives, who note that the water vapor permeability also is very low.
