Optec introduces armored fiber-optic connectivity line

JUNE 10, 2009 -- Optec says the higher durability of its fiber-optic cable assemblies and patch cords leads to lower maintenance costs, longer mean time between maintenance, and longer service life.

JUNE 10, 2009 -- Optec Technology Ltd. (search Lightwave for Optec Technology), a supplier of fiber-optic interconnect and assembly products, is launching an armored fiber-optic cable assemblies series, suitable for deployments in applications that require greater protection of the fiber-optic cable, such as fiber-to-the-desk (FTTD), broadcasting, FTTX, and networks in other harsh environments.

Sharon Kan, marketing manager of Optec Technology, says the patch cords and cable assemblies save space while improving the security and stability of fiber connections.

The patch cords and cable assemblies offer added protection via stainless-steel metal tubing inside the cable coating that protects the fiber inside the cable, which also allows easier handling and installation of the cable.

In addition, the protective metal tubing prevents damage from rodents biting the cable. Optec says the higher durability of its fiber-optic cable leads to lower maintenance costs, longer mean time between maintenance (MTBM), and longer service life.

In comparison with traditional fiber-optic patch cords, says the company, optical performance will not degrade as a result of the additional protective metal tube. Optical performance, such as insertion loss and return loss is the same as traditional fiber-optic cable assemblies. Customers have a choice of connectors (LC, FC, SC, ST, MTRJ, and E2000) along with the type of polish (APC, UPC, and PC) required.
